Traffic congestion has been a growing concern with economic development successes and population growth in and around Richardson.
The DART master plan presented in 1983 included the Cotton Belt Regional Rail Line including a link between CityLine Station, in Richardson, and DFW Airport.
- Dallas metroplex area residents voted to approve a 1% sales tax to fund that DART master plan.
- DART has calculated that the Cotton Belt will relieve over 18,000 car trips per day on our roads and highways and directly relieve local congestion.
- Today, along with Richardson, other North Dallas suburbs also support the Cotton Belt, including: Plano, Carrollton, Addison, Farmers Branch, Irving, Grapevine and Garland.
- With over 26,000 students and growing, UTD has already committed to building a Cotton Belt Station.
- Richardson has paid into DART with its 1% sales tax.
- Why would we leave our Richardson residents, including these 26,000 UTD students and 2,500 UTD staff, without DART rail access along this route?
Mabel Simpson, candidate for Place 4, has stated her support FOR the Cotton Belt DART line. The Richardson Coalition recommends voting for Ms. Simpson.
Cory Montfort, also a candidate for Place 4, has stated that she is opposed to the Cotton Belt.
